West Corsica Mainland

The Western part of mainland Corsica has distinct features and can be considered as a Subcontinent. SLGI team gave it the transitory name B072.

History[]

The area was built around 2009. Since then, it remained a quiet place, without significant intervention from the Linden officials except for a griefer attack.

Structure[]

The subcontinent consists of 116 sims. It is one of the biggest subcontinents in Corsica. It is larger then one Microsector and measures 17 sims from East to West and 15 sims from North to South. It does not have a regular shape.

This subcontinent is huge and includes many different Geographic features.

This subcontinent is huge. It can be divided into two long peninsulas, one internal waterway and a coastal waterway.

North Peninsula[]

This peninsula stretches West from the Circuit Road, the main road in Corsica. It has no road. If it were possible to walk on its entire length, an avatar would have to cross 22 sim borders. In a straight line, from one end to the other, the peninsula measures 3630 m. Many roads are not that long (see List Of Roads for details). Because there is no road along the peninsula, residents are not connected in any way.

The altitude map reveals the real shape of the peninsula. There are many surprises for an explorer. For example, there are high mountains (see Mountains Of Corsica) that rise as yellow or red spots on the map. The highest mountains are located in North, where they reach 152 m (Yellowmoon) and 161 m (Motocyclone).

There are a few low-altitude passages, the lowest being in Hawkpit (26 m). At that elevation, it is almost possible to dig a canal through the peninsula. Other passages are much higher. The peninsula appears to have no plateau. In fact, it is an alternation of peaks and passages, rounded hills and hilly ranges.

South Peninsula[]

Much wider and shorter, the South peninsula also lack any road infrastructure. It is composed of a few high plateaus, rounded hills and sharp mountains which could not be detected without the altitude map. There are two long depressions, passage ways, separating peaks one from another. For a traveler, it is an alternation of parcels of inhabited and abandoned land. It is sometimes very difficult to cross it on its entire length.

The South peninsula has probably an intriguing Geology, as it appears to be composed of many plateaus, rounded hills, depressions and mountains. Some parts are highly affected by terraforming.

North Coast[]

There is a protected waterway that runs through 23 sims along the North coast. Along the way, there are a 8 sims of protected land. Many of the coastal sims have inhabited land. Usually, the coast is less accessible in West, where the mountains come very close to the water. In East, there are beaches along the coastline.

The North coastline provides an access way between Linden Memorial and Northsky Channel to East and Gulf Of Moles to West. It is a long and dangerous way, as it requires dangerous double sim crossings.

Internal Waters[]

There is a long stretch of water that advances between the peninsulas. Some might consider it as a very long gulf, others might say it is a river with many lakes alongside. Suppose it is a river, it forms in Valarian sim, very close to the center of mainland Corsica. It flows North-West and receives a tributary in Bissorte sim, coming from South. There are three entirely protected sims along the way. In Skains, it receives the Tiny Channel which comes from South and provides access to South Corsica Sea. Then, in Usery, it joins the North coast.

The internal waters are difficult for sailors to travel alongside. However, they are a good place for residents who want to live in a Tropical Beach Paradise.

Land Status[]

Protected Land is highly limited to waterways and (far to East) road access. The rest of land is Inhabited Land (as one can see, there are many constructions along the waterways) and some Abandoned Land.

There are no rezz zones (except for the road) and no infohubs.

Access[]

The Circuit Road provides limited access to East. It is possible to use the waterways in this area for sailing, but not without risk. Without rezz zones, a sailor has to travel a long way to get here and explore. Waterways are narrow and often pass over sim corners.

The YavaScript pods run along the river. SLGI Fleet have a dedicated ship that reaches the internal waterways every 6 hours.
