Route 12 map

The Northern part of Nautilus dryland has its own road network, known as Route 12. The Western part is actually a dirt road that gives access to a rural area. Route 12 has two branches, which share the same name.

The dirt road

There are two different types of road: the dirt road located in West and the modern road that is found elsewhere.

Dirt road is narrow, unsustainable for large vehicles. Even if it has no asphalt or pavement, its surface is smooth enough to avoid a bumpy ride. There is less land reserve along the road. Sometimes, vegetation can be found along the road. There are places where large boulders partially obstruct the way.

Modern road is large enough for conventional road vehicles, including trucks. The road is covered with modern asphalt and has no holes. There are traffic marks along the way: marks along the road axis and signs to reduce speed. The road is enforced with concrete and stone along its sides. Sometimes, there are trees or bushes along the land reserve surrounding the road.

Rezz zones & teleporters can be found along the road. There are seven teleporters, three of them located at intersections, three located at road ends and one in the middle of the road. Each teleporter is actually a rezz zone with a map of the road, showing locations of all other teleporters on it as yellow stars. By touching, you teleport there. Additional rezz zones can be found at some sim borders, usually marked by road signs.

Rough terrain is found along the way. Route 12 passes through very difficult terrain sometimes. There are many obstacles along the way, including long gulfs (estuaries), peninsulas, hills, valleys, mountains and plateaus. Road builders had to use extreme techniques to pierce their way through all the Geographic obstacles encountered on the way. As a result, in many places, the road has steep grades, sharp turns or follows a path that otherwise would not look logical, avoiding a mountain or a valley.

Modern road

Route 12 can be divided into a main road and a network of branches. The main road spans from Pouncival in West to Rannveig in East. It has two branch roads and a branch loop.

Main Road[]

The main road, stretching from Pouncival to Rannveig, is 9974 m long, of which 610 m is dirt and 9364 modern.

West dirt road (610 m, Pouncival - Clinker) can be clearly seen on the map as it is narrower. It crosses rural areas. There is a point where the road runs under a stone arcade.

Modern section 1 (1805 m, Clinker to Dreyfus) has a shape similar to a seven (7). The unusual loop can be explained by the strange Geography of the area. The road ends in West in a rezz zone, continued by the dirt road. To East, it reaches an intersection with South - West branch.

Modern section 2 (1390 m, Dreyfus - Donalbain) connects the two branches that run towards South. The road has some steep grades in some areas.

Modern section 3 (2568 m, Donalbain - Fenstriano) connects two teleporters. While Donalbain is at the intersection with the South branch, Fenstriano has no branch road. The teleporter is located at the northernmost part of the road. This sector is mostly notable for high altitude differences. Sometimes the road runs close to the shores, otherwise it climbs near the top of the mountains. In Houlihan sim, the road comes very close to the isolated Radar Sea.

Modern section 4 (3601 m, Fenstriano - Rannvieg) is the easternmost and the longest one. In this area, the road is built through a more flatter terrain, which allowed builders to cross over the dividing range a few times.

Branches[]

Dirt road loop (1263 m) is located in West. It forms a loop that encompasses four sims. Along its way, the road is narrow and has some steep grades. The loop passes over the mountain range and is home to some scenic landscapes.

South - West branch (2503 m, Dreyfus - Beatrice) first makes a loop to avoid the mountains located in Spike sim, then advances South along a peninsula, reaching close to the coastline. Inside the peninsula, the road is built at low elevation.

South branch (1193 m, Donalbain - Camorro) is considered by some people as the main road. It makes a loop to avoid the mountains in Rizzo sim, then turns South, ending close to an isthmus that leads to Central Nautilus. As a variant of Nautilus Strait Project, several residents proposed to extend the South branch further South, connecting the roads from South Nautilus Road Network.
